ECIL chooses UltraSoC for embedded analytics facilitated by MosChip.

A year after the agreement with UltraSoC to be the technical sales representative in India, The big design win in India with the country’s leading tech development organization, ECIL.

UltraSoC today confirmed ECIL, a leading technology development organization run by the Government of India, as its first publicly-announced customer in the country. UltraSoC will supply its embedded analytics IP to support ECIL’s semiconductor product development teams in a wide range of commercial applications including cybersecurity, high-reliability architectures for satellites and space, and novel computing paradigms.

The companies’ agreement follows the recent appointment of MosChip to provide technical sales and customer support for UltraSoC in the region.

ECIL was founded over 50 years ago to help build a strong national electronics industry in India. It has been responsible for many significant firsts in Indian indigenous development, including the first programmable logic controller, and even India’s first digital computer and television. Today, ECIL’s technology development caters for products for a wide range of governmental and commercial applications.

Spokesperson, title, ECIL, added: “UltraSoC addresses many of the key pain points of the technology industries as we move towards the 2020s. Their technology will help ECIL to develop products that are reliable, safe and secure, while speeding our innovation cycles, reducing risk and cutting costs.”

Aileen Ryan, UltraSoC’s Chief Strategy Officer, commented: “India is an exciting region of growth for UltraSoC, and for the semiconductor industry generally. We’re proud to be able to play a part in the further development of the indigenous electronics ecosystem, in which ECIL has played a leading role for many years. We look forward to developing our long-term relationship with ECIL, which has an unrivaled range of experience and expertise in so many high-growth business sectors.”

UltraSoC’s RISC-V trace solution is being supplied as a key part of the embedded analytics solution for ECIL. The Indian government has identified the potential of the open-source RISC-V architecture for its national processor program to boost its indigenous technology development. A team at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has been working on RISC-V since 2016 and, in July this year, announced the availability of the Shakti open-source RISC-V based processor. Demonstrating commitment to the national processor program, the Shakti project was funded by the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

UltraSoC’s engagement with ECIL was facilitated by its Indian representative, MosChip, a publicly-listed semiconductor company based in Hyderabad, with ~20 years of experience and know-how in semiconductor, systems and IoT engineering, ranging from SoCs and embedded design to cloud and mobile software development. The company has sector expertise in applications ranging from aerospace and defense to consumer electronics, automotive, medical, telecommunications and mobile, and so was ideally placed both to help cement the relationship between ECIL and UltraSoC, and provide ongoing technical support as the partnership develops.

Last year, Aileen Ryan and UltraSoC CTO Gajinder Panesar traveled to India for the first RISC-V Workshop in Chennai, hosted by the IIT. Prior to the event, Panesar also wrote about the opportunities for India in a blog available here. The company also participated in the recent India-UK FutureTech Festival, jointly organized by the UK Government in India and NITI Aaog, as part of the India-UK Technology Partnership.
