Jointly steered by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and implemented by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) alongside the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the mission seeks to significantly enhance the nation’s computational infrastructure and research capabilities. At its core, NSM aims to empower academic and research institutions across the country by creating a robust, interconnected grid of high-performance computing (HPC) facilities. The mission envisions installing more than 70 state-of-the-art supercomputing systems at premier institutions, spanning diverse scientific disciplines and enabling cutting-edge research and innovation. This massive distributed HPC ecosystem will enable researchers to tackle complex computational problems that were previously out of reach, ranging from climate modelling and drug discovery to material science and artificial intelligence.
